Interestingly, I am fascinated by a website that erases from memory and repute any comment that does not fall in with the popular BBC and media stance of beings that through birth and nothing else are exalted above all other mankind. The "Olympics" are about physical prowess and nothing else, horses for courses.

Did anyone hear Paul Merton's comments last Friday evening about Ilfracombe, and its Olympic Torch bearing convoy, on the currently Andrew Marr dominated BBC that has latterly developed a love of unelected stalwarts stance?

I agree that the Jonathan Edwards jump by the Landmark should be preserved. We are lucky to have an Olympic athlete that hails from Ilfracombe and a winner at that!

To mark the Olympics it would be nice to see Ilfracombe finding the money to spruce up the Jonathan Edwards jump by the Landmark. It is starting to age a little now and break up in places. It entertains me every time I pass by and I always take visitors to it. In this age of sponsorship it may be something a local company would want to fund and rightly gain a bit of kudos from.

Very exciting to see the torch relay come through(especially when it missed out far bigger towns like Weston Super Mare population:83,000/Ilfracombe population:10,840).Its a good idea, and helps everybody feel involved, especially those who wont be attending the main events, and of course we still have `our own` Jonathan Edwards as the current triple jump world record holder,we even made the BBC main news at 10,and the sun was shining, now who could possibly be negative about that........?
