I would have thought Ifracombe and the North Devon region as a whole would only benefit from an additional transport link, subject of course to an improvement in Ilfracombe's wider links to the region. Whilst Swansea would no doubt benefit from an influx in Devonian consumers, considering there's an established park and ride bus service from the docks to the city's much improved shopping centre.
Ilfracombe desperately needs better connections . If the ferry was up and running footfall in the town would certainly go up which is a no brainier for boosting cash spent locally. Also even if people do decide to use the link to Swansea for commuting to work in Wales this opens up ilfracombe as a viable place of residence for people working in south Wales. I currently commute to Exeter which on the train from bstaple takes about 2 hours in total. I could look for work in Swansea and commute there in a fraction of the time. Onward transport from ilfracombe for ferry passengers may be a bit of a stumbling block as we could really do with a rail connection for people to really use it as a transport route to the south west. I have family in mid Wales and popping over the channel and getting a train up will be a fantastic compared to the long slog by road via Bristol. Bring it on! Best thing to happen to ilfracombe for years!
