I noticed graffiti all over the Collingwood the other day, it's disgusting and these tags are definitely not art-Banksy these so-called artists most definitely aint! This sort of vandalism really affects the appearance of our town, it makes Ilfracombe look run-down and gives it the type of downmarket look we are so desperate to avoid.Thank god the Collingwood is being knocked down soon.

ReportIm glad you mentioned Banksy as his art always has a meaning and tells a tale, and the guy is talented.Unfortunately most people that spray or`scrawl` on walls have no talent and limited art skills,eg spray paint running down the walls, and its more suited to the backstreets of Harlem NYC than Ilfracombe Rapparee Cove.Al woz ere 2011.

ReportOh no, I've just commented on the Ilfracombe Beauty Spots article that Rapparee is one of my favourite unspoilt spots in Combe! Haven't been down there for a while, so upset to hear about the graffiti.

You say the graffiti artists are 'socially inadequate' but surely things are not so simple. We are assuming they are young people which they probably are but what age - 11-15yrs or older? I would like to think they are just a few youngsters as so often our young people are much maligned when the majority are well behaved and caring members of society. Let's make sure as a town we give young people, especially young boys, lots of recreational facilities and opportunities to follow sport and cultural interests instead of immediately castigating all as 'socially inadequate'.

It's all well and good trying to occupy young people, but there are always going to be a few who don't have any interest in being a member of society, and prefer instead to scribble everywhere and tarnish that society instead! I don't think a single "well behaved and caring member of society" would ever "mark their territory" all over the town! There's a particular "tag" I noticed EVERYWHERE last time I went back to Ilfracombe to see my family, and not only is it upsetting to see how run down it makes places look, it's also incredibly annoying.

ReportI see the latest victim of the graffiti attack on Ilfracombe is the Landmark. It looks really awful and is such a shame. On the other hand perhaps the culprit was hoping it would give them the incentive they need to wash the filthy twin towers.

The graffiti attack on the Landmark proves the inefficteness of CCTV. We need policemen patrolling the streets on foot, not in cars. Graffiti always occurs in poor areas. In central London, the City and in Canary Wharf, there is no graffiti at all, anywhere. Most London suburbs are graffiti free. It is only in places where there is simmering resentment, a purposeless young working class who are unable to express themselves in conventional English, and boredom and hopelessness is in the ascendency.
