I personally don't think it will close permanently? Surely someone else will just take over the running of the business?

Why would you blame Tesco? Surely your gripe should be with the government and the legislation that puts pubs on the financial back foot or maybe the issue was simply a badly run pub?
Maybe we should rant at large pub chains for offering cheap food and booze or breweries for high rent hikes and inflated tied prices. Don't they kill local private pubs too?
All those who say yes to high alcohol pricing across the board please put your hand up. Anyone?
Mine stays firmly down.
People's habits are changing and so pubs are disappearing across the country. Like MHAnder I don't think you can blame Tesco. I think that Ilfracombe High Street could shed a couple of pubs and still have plenty to serve the community. I wouldn't have put the Bunch of Grapes as the canary in the cage, there are a couple of others I like to see in that position. So fingers crossed the Bunch of Grapes comes back as the owners predict.

Well let's hope it comes back because it is an attractive building. I know it does have a few problems but by and large it serves a purpose.
The crowd of smokers outside Buddy's, however, does make that part of the High Street look very unseemly. Other pubs manage to cater for smokers but a crowd of nicotine addicts on the pavement looks untidy. Even if I smoked I wouldn't want to parade my addiction in front of everyone. Haven't they got somewhere at the back?
