The South West Birdman Competition2012 will take place on Ilfracombe Pier this Sunday
The popular and inimitable wacky annual event will feature the usual fearless and fantastical flyers as well as live music, rides, stalls, children's entertainment, BBQ and of course, fully licensed bar...not to mention The Wurzels making a welcome return to Birdman! The legendary Westcountry band are even taking part in the Birdman competition and have recorded a track and video in honour of the Event!
If plummeting off the Pier doesn't float your boat (ahem), then you can enjoy watching the fun challenges taking place on the day.
Back for a second year in 2012 is the North Devon's Toughest Town competition. The contest will pit teams from local towns and villages against each other in a test of strength, endurance and speed as the competitors battle it out for not only the prestigious and coveted accolade of being named North Devon's toughest town!
The tournament features teams of four competing in events such as the Double-Decker Bus Pull, Lantern Hill Devil's Dash, Hay Bale Heave and a traditional Tug of War to decide once and for all which North Devon town is the toughest!
The popular Birdman's got Talent contest is also back for a second year. If you've seen an episode of Britain's got Talent you basically get the gist. Five gifted locals have been chosen to show off their hidden talents at the grand final on the day of the Birdman, where the finalists will be in with a chance of winning a slot at Calvertstock on Saturday 11th August at The Beggars Roost in Barbrook as well as a cash prize.
To enjoy the feathered frolics a full-day adult ticket will cost you £7 and children pay £3 entry with discounted family tickets available. Birdman 2012 is once again organised by Ilfracombe Round Table in order to raise funds for local and national good causes. So go along, have fun and help support our local fundraising lads.
