Ilfracombe residents have the opportunity to take to the streets to celebrate another Royal occasion this Summer.

Devon County Council is again offering a free application service which successfully helped communities come together for last year's Royal Wedding. To make it as easy as possible for residents to hold street parties to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee over the extended Bank Holiday weekend (2nd-5th June), street party organisers simply have to fill out an application form and a declaration, and submit them to the County Council.

Anyone planning a street party for the Diamond Jubilee can apply to the Council for a temporary Traffic Regulation Order to close a minor road, free of charge.

Especially for the event, the notice period for closures has been reduced from three months to six weeks, and applications need to be submitted by Friday 20th April. Organisers will only face a charge if No Waiting Cones are needed.

Preparations are already being made for a street party in Slade to mark the occasion. Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: "We want the whole of Devon to unite in celebrating this marvellous occasion with their friends and neighbours, and we're keen to help everyone have a successful event. Last year around 80 street parties were held across the county for the Royal Wedding and I'm sure many people would want to make the Queen's Diamond Jubilee equally memorable. We have tried to make it as straight forward as possible for people to apply for a road closure, but all we ask is that people let us know about their event in advance and don't leave it until the last minute."

If the street party is planned for a major road then the Special Events procedures must be followed. For more information call 0845 1551004, email csc.roads@devon.gov.uk or visit www.devon.gov.uk/ttrostreetparty where you can also download an application form.

Completed application forms should be sent to Devon County Council, Highway Management, PO Box 494, Newton Abbot, TQ12 9GL or email roadclosures@devon.gov.uk

Nothing planned for half-term, although we are planning to have the clubhouse open on good weather days, so we will likely put out a few swingballs & have tennis equipment available, plus some club info. Also as the tea rooms is not open the club has a tuck shop operating for our members & "their friends". If possible, we will be happy to do some hot drinks in return for donations to Playground Improvement Group.

There is a group of regular park users looking to organise some future events, so there might be a hint of this & we would love to hear from anyone who might be willing to help out with park events!

As an alternative, head on over to Bicclescombe Park for a picnic. Regular park users are planning a series of events & hopefully the tea rooms will be back up & running. In any event the tennis club will be happy to facilitate festivities. If you are interested in joining in over the extended holiday weekend contact the tennis club. Community groups welcome!
